Brinsworth tournament
Crosspool Juniors Girls Under 9s played in the Brinsworth Whitehill tournament on Sunday 10th June, missing five squad members, including three academy players, but welcoming a new player to the squad: Lucia Wood-Bonelli. The girls played well, topping the table unbeaten after the round-robin stage. In the semi-finals the Crosspool girls played Dronfield, whom they'd already beaten 2-0 in the earlier stages. Despite dominating the play, Crosspool were unable to get the ball in the net within the 10 minutes available, and the fixture went to penalties. After the first five penalties had been taken, the teams were still level at 3-3, with some good penalties having been taken by both sides, and some good saves made by both keepers. Sadly, two penalties into the sudden death stage it was Crosspool who died!
All the Crosspool girls played well, but special mentions go to Greta in goal, who kept a clean sheet in open play for the whole tournament, and newcomer Lucia, who had the opportunity to play in all outfield positions, and made a good impression throughout.
Team: Greta Barber-Stones, Laura Ridal, Ayesha Khan, Lucia Wood-Bonelli, Lucy Cousins, Ellie Bird, Katie Plush, Caty Murray.
